Breaking News, Current News, Plane, UK
At least three people were feared dead after a mid-air collision between a helicopter and light aircraft flying from an airfield where air traffic control had been shut due to “staff shortages”. Wreckage from the aircraft tumbled from the sky and landed just over a mile from the former home of the Rothschild banking family at Waddesdon Manor in Buckinghamshire, yesterday lunchtime. Residents reported hearing a “loud bang” and a plume of smoke could be seen above trees. The Air Accidents Investigation Branch said the collision involved a helicopter and aircraft, both of which had taken off from Wycombe Air Park, 23 miles away near High Wycombe. It is understood the helicopter was carrying two people, while only the pilot was on board the light aircraft, reported to be a two-seat Cessna

A Russian military spy plane cruised the skies over Washington and New Jersey on Wednesday — in a perfectly legal bit of aerial reconnaissance that nonetheless appeared to be an attempt to troll President Donald Trump. A 1992 agreement known as the Treaty on Open Skies allows each country to conduct surveillance flights over the other's territory, something the U.S. and Russia have done a combined 165 times over the past 15 years, according to the State Department.   But Russia's choice of targets this go-round have a decidedly Trumpian flavor, taking the spy plane over Trump's current hometown of Washington, D.C., and past Bedminster, N.J., where the president is vacationing at one of his golf clubs, according to a flight-tracking website monitored by POLITICO. "I don't know of an

A U.S. District Court judge has determined that the FBI is not improperly withholding information about who funded the 9/11 attacks and also decided that there would be no Freedom of Information Act trial to evaluate the need for keeping some information related to the attacks under wraps. Judge Cecilia Altonaga’s ruling was part of a case brought by Florida Bulldog, a South Florida journalism organization, that for years has probed connections between the hijackers and some Saudis living at the time in the United States. The organization has been supported in its efforts by former U.S. Sen. Bob Graham, who co-chaired Congress’s Joint Inquiry into 9/11, and by the Herald-Tribune, as a so-called “friend of the court.” A Freedom of Information Act trial, in which the government would h

A military transport plane with 120 people on board went missing Wednesday on a flight from southern Myanmar to Yangon, a military spokesman said. There were fears it may have crashed into the ocean, since its route would have taken it over the Andaman Sea. Gen. Myat Min Oo said the Chinese-made Y-8 turboprop aircraft was carrying 106 passengers — mostly families of military personnel — and 14 crew members when it went missing Wednesday afternoon. In an earlier statement, the number of passengers was said to be 90. It is not unusual for such flights to carry civilians to offset transportation costs for military families stationed in the somewhat remote south. “The military plane went missing and lost contact after it took off from Myeik, and now the military has started a sea and air

Delta is introducing four self-service bag drop machines at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport this summer, a $600,000 investment that allows customers to quickly, securely and easily check their own bags. One machine will be equipped to test facial recognition technology to match customers with their passport photos through identification verification, a first for U.S. carriers. “We expect this investment and new process to save customers time,” said Gareth Joyce, Delta’s Senior Vice President – Airport Customer Service and Cargo. “And, since customers can operate the biometric-based bag drop machine independently, we see a future where Delta agents will be freed up to seek out travelers and deliver more proactive and thoughtful customer service.” The airline’s introduction
