Spanish Scientists Create A 3D Bioprinter To Print Human Skin

Health, Latest News, Science, Technology
Scientists from the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M), CIEMAT (Center for Energy, Environmental and Technological Research), Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón, in collaboration with the firm BioDan Group, have presented a prototype for a 3D bioprinter that can create totally functional human skin. This skin is adequate for transplanting to patients or for use in research or the testing of cosmetic, chemical, and pharmaceutical products. This research has recently been published in the electronic version of the scientific journal Biofabrication. In this article, the team of researchers has demonstrated, for the first time, that, using the new 3D printing technology, it is possible to produce proper human skin. One of the authors, José Luis Jorcano, professor in UC3M's d

Nearly 13 million pages of declassified documents from the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) have been released online. In all, more than 12 million documents are accessible, covering the history of the CIA from its creation in the 1940s up to the 1990s – with intelligence officials giving assurances that the half-century of data is in its entirety, with nothing removed. The range of documents, are known as the CREST (CIA Records Search Tool) "None of this is cherry-picked," "It's the full history. It's good and bads."  CIA spokesperson Heather Fritz Horniak said The CIA’s participation in the 1973 coup in Chile which saw the rise of the Pinochet regime, as well as on the MK-Ultra project, dubbed the CIA mind control program, which involved experiments, some of them illegal, de

AWAKE explores the use of plasma to accelerate particles to high energies over short distances In early December, the AWAKE collaboration made an important step towards a pioneering accelerator technology that would reduce the size and cost of particle accelerators. Having commissioned the facility with first beam in November, the team has now installed a plasma cell and observed a strong modulation of high-energy proton bunches as they pass through it. This signals the generation of very strong electric fields that could be used to accelerate electrons to high energies over short distances. AWAKE (Advanced Proton Driven Plasma Wakefield Acceleration Experiment) is the first facility to investigate the use of plasma wakefields driven by proton beams. The experiment involves injecting a “

Moon Express announced Jan. 13 that it has closed a $20 million financing round, giving the company sufficient funds for an attempt to win the Google Lunar X Prize later this year. The new investment, which the company calls a Series B-1 round, comes from a mix of new and existing investors. The company’s investors include venture capital firms Founders Fund and Social Capital, as well as software company Autodesk. Several individual investors also participated in the latest round. Moon Express Chief Executive Bob Richards said one of the company’s co-founders, billionaire Naveen Jain, played a key role in the round. “He not only participated at a significant financial level, but also gave other investors the confidence through his commitment that they should invest as well,” Richa

‘Morphing Wing’ Drone Capable Of Landing Just Like A Bird

https://youtu.be/uU0WDWV6au8 Drones can look pretty darn graceful up in the sky, but that effect is often ruined when you see the clumsy ways that they return to Earth. Fortunately, this could be about to change, courtesy of work coming out of the U.K.’s University of Bristol and BMT Defence Services. In a new piece of research, investigators were able to get a “morphing wing” drone to perform a birdlike “perched landing.” “We were very inspired by the way that birds fly, because they manipulate in a specific way in order to change their direction quite rapidly,” Antony Waldock, Principal Systems Analyst at BMT Defence Services, told Digital Trends. The unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) used in the experiment boasted a uniquely shaped wing, capable of reshaping itself while the cra
