UK terror threat level reduced from ‘critical’ to ‘severe’

The terror threat level in the UK has been downgraded from critical to severe which means an attack is now ‘highly likely’, instead of ‘imminent’ .

The Prime Minister Theresa May announced the change in the threat level during a short statement just before midday.

The terror threat grading was introduced by security chiefs in August 2006 and is set by MI5.

However, the PM said Operation Temperer, which allows the military to be deployed to key sites, will continue until the end of the bank holiday when the soldiers will return to barracks.
